In one of the latest session, it took place at a concert hall where the band Ghost was going to be playing. The GM asked me to come up with an opening act. Since the show was taking place in San Diego, I chose to make the opening fictional band a band called Spiral Tower.
Here’s what I wrote about it –
The opening band will be a band known as Spiral Tower.
The Band is:
Daniel Graves – guitars & keys
Rahk Devon – vocals
Ward Leggio – bass
Norman McAlpin – drums
Brian Evans – guitarsThey’ve just released their demo To Chase the Stars.
Demo Includes the following songs:
The Angels Cried
Halo of Blood and Thorns
The Storm
Rise to Glory
The band is a reference to a San Diego band called “Psychotic Waltz” (https://psychoticwaltz.com/) – originally known as “Aslan” – they released a demo that had three songs: To Chase the Stars, No Glory, and Spiral Tower. (There’s a 4th song on the other side of their cassette release called “The Fry Tape” – but it’s just too weird). The song Spiral Tower was/is such a great song. So that’s what I used for the fictional band’s name to open for Steel Destiny. The band member names are the members of Psychotic Waltz, with last names moved around (and one of their last names was Rock, so I used Rahk instead and made it a first name, and used that – and used their singer’s first name as the last name in that case).
The fictional band’s EP title, as mentioned above, comes from Psychotic Waltz’s song To Chase the Stars.
The songs on the fictional band’s EP are references to the two EP’s Psychotic Waltz released.
The Angels Cried is a reference to Psychotic Waltz’s And The Devil Cried.
Halo of Blood and Thorns is a reference to Psychotic Waltz’s Halo of Thorns.
The Storm is a reference to Psychotic Waltz’s I of the Storm.
Rise to Glory is a reference to Psychotic Waltz’s No Glory.
More information than you or anyone cared to know, but thought it’d be fun to base this other fictional band on a real San Diego metal band.
During the session, we found out that the band Spiral Tower was “detained” – and that they needed another opener. My character, naturally, volunteered Steel Destiny. The venue owner yelled how we’re no one, and my character argued otherwise – and that we had Funko figures of the band and t-shirts (which then made me go make digital Funko of James Aldrich as well as a shirt…)
And the T-Shirt…
I’ve yet to write the lyrics for the session, but definitely have something in mind.
