Losing Sight And Finding It Again.

As most of you know, I am doing the Down Syndrome Walk this October. Originally the idea behind the walk was to do it for Dexter. Then I met Amy and Daniel and their son, Milo. Dexter and Milo were the founding reason for the Down Right Awesome website. But when I did this walk for the first time – I saw hundreds of children and adults with Down Syndrome. It became, at that moment, more than just about me. More than doing it for Dexter and Milo. It became a walk for all of them.

And as I look at the donations that have been made for our team, I currently have the lead for the most money raised. This isn’t a competition by any means. But it made me stop and realize something.

Sometimes it becomes easy to lose sight – or simply take for granted how amazing and fortunate we are sometimes. There has been friends and family who have donated to my page for the Down Syndrome Awareness Donation. But there have also been people at my work who only know me as the guy who makes funny cat or dog captions and sends them to the mailing list.

These friends, family, co-workers – it’s not that they have donated money. But it’s the time they put to earn that hard earned money, into a cause I am doing a walk for. There have also been people, who I am so thankful for just SHARING the URL around. Not so that it raises more money for me, but because it helps spread the awareness of Down Syndrome and what we can do to make a difference.

I am blessed to have some very amazing people in my life. And in the event I have not said it recently, I just wanted to say how thankful I am for all of you.
