Dean the Dragon

Dean The Dragon

Race: Dragon
Occupation: Protector of Ator, Whatever He Wants
Place of Birth: Realm of Dragons
Known Relatives: Sandscale (Brass Dragon – Brother), Stoneclaws (Bronze Dragon – Brother), Skywing (Copper Dragon – Brother), Auric (Gold Dragon – Brother), Platinum (Platinum Dragon – All Father)
First Appearance: Neverending Nights – Episode 21: Accumulation
History: Dean is but one of the Dragons of the Metallic Order (Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, and Silver – with Platinum being their All Father). Though Dean is not his “true” Draconic name, it is the one he adopted when he travels the world in Human form. Dean’s true, Draconic name, though rarely spoken is Argent. The Dragons of the Metallic Order long swore that they would not directly interfere or influence the way of Mortals. However, the Dragons of the Chromatic Order (Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White – with the Dragon of Silverlake as their All Father) made no such vow. Argent watched over the world, furious that the Chromatic Order was doing so much not only to influence, but rule over the world. The most powerful of the Chromatic Order was none other than the Red Dragon named Crimson. Her relentless evil influence spread across the land as she amassed an army called The Crimson Draco Legion. Argent fought with the other Metallic Order, saying that sitting idly by was not the right answer; that they too, had to return to the world and do something about the Chromatic Dragons and their evil ways.

Still, the Metallic Order disagreed. They believed if they interfered with the ways of Mortals, that Mortals would come to rely on them and become weaker, rather than stronger. Argent went against the others, the first to do so in the Order, and ventured to the world, where he adopted the disguise of an old, human wizard with silver eyes and silver hair. Dean traveled the world, never directly taking action, but more often than not gently “nudging” the Mortals to do specific things.

Argent took up residence in a cave, just outside the City of Ator, where as the human wizard Dean, he would venture down into the City of Ator to walk among the humans. He sensed one of the Chromatic Dragons within the area – so he took it upon himself to inform them that somewhere near the City of Ator, there was a blue dragon named Cobalt – and that the city would have to be ready. A few short years later, Cobalt did indeed attack the City of Ator, but the people were not ready (none of them believing that Dragons walked the world, since it had been thousands of years since any dragons had ever been seen or heard from – other than in the form of tales told by bards). Dean had been watching, hoping that the humans would be able to drive Cobalt back. But the Blue Dragon was too powerful. Dean was forced to make his presence known and changed into his Draconian form. He took no action, other than roaring – which startled Cobalt to find one of the Metallic Order in the World of Mortals. The people of Ator cheered and showered Argent with riches. This was not what Argent had wanted, however. Though he did not directly take action against Cobalt, he could see that the people would rely on him to protect them. Argent explained that he could not defend them against the Blue Dragon – that they needed to take it upon themselves to defend themselves. The Mages were inspired by the awe and power that Argent represented and switched from studying simple “Dazzle” spells to forging magical weapons that would protect them against Cobalt – or any threat that dared strike against the City of Ator.

Argent was pleased with the results; the humans only needed to be educated and to believe in themselves. They had become too complacent. Argent knew he had to travel the world more – but he always considered the City of Ator his home away from home. One of his first ventures, included meeting Amiee, and Elf who had unparalleled skills at making dresses and clothing that fit perfectly. She was able to – at a glance – guess someone’s shirt, dress, and pant size, with 100% accuracy. Dean took her in and helped her hone her skills at her craft. As she grew older and more skilled, Dean explained that the outside world rarely cared about fluffy gowns. The world outside Sunflower Vale was a dangerous one, and so she turned to making armor with Dean’s help. From designing gowns to designing metallic armor, Amiee’s skill increased rapidly as she mastered the craft of making armor with a metal that Dean called ‘Silverscale.’ The metal she had been using called ‘Silverscale’ was actually the metallic scales from Dean’s Dragon form; forging extremely powerful armor, with an assortment of magical properties that protected those who wore it.

Dean left Amiee to forge her own destiny, and explained there was other tasks he had to tend to.

Dean ventured to a small village called Northern Stonepark. It was there he met a young woman, whose talent for art was amazing. She drew several incredible designs for armor, weapons, toys and even homes. Dean encouraged her to take her art and do more with it. He explained that she could create the very things she drew. Ann refused to believe it, but Dean showed her how to forge armor that she had designed in her art, once again, using Silverscale.

Ann’s skill at creating armor became legendary. Dean, before leaving, informed her that one day, her services will be called on – and to be ready. Because at a moment’s notice she will need to develop armor that would disguise two would be heroes being viciously hunted down by the Crimson Dragon. (This seemed like crazy talk to Ann, because there had been no dragons in the land for thousands of years!) Dean saw the doubt in her eyes, and simply said, “The one who will request the armor from you will be another Armorer – she will tell you the code, and you will know it’s time.”

Still, Ann was not convinced, so Dean added, “Tonight, when you go to Artifact Succession, you will meet a man there – his name will be Ed the Engraver. You two will, very quickly, fall in love with one another.”

As if the talk about Crimson Dragons wasn’t already foolish enough, the idea that Ann would meet someone at Ancient Succession and fall in love was ludicrous. So few people came through Northern Stonepark, and she knew almost everyone – and there was certainly no one named Ed the Engraver, and the chances of someone passing through with that name and title was little to none. But Ann the Armorer did indeed meet someone by the name of Ed the Engraver; and several years later, when Amiee the Armorer showed up, she made the armor that had been requested by her to hide two heroes from the Crimson Draco Legion.

Dean had left the night before that fateful storm over Northern Stonepark, and returned to Amiee the Armorer. Dean assured her that one day, two young men would approach her seeking armor – and that she should keep an eye out for them, as they were destined to do great things – whether they believed it or not. He explained that she would know them by how they explained “how grapes grow.” Amiee the Armorer thought nothing of it, until one day – two would be heroes came to her seeking armor in Stonefrost City. The Ranger, who should clearly know how grapes grow (being all outdoors man like) said that “grapes grow on bushes” – and she corrected him, explaining that they actually grew on trees – which immediately triggered the memory of what Dean had once told her several years ago. Amiee the Armorer began following Peter and Grayson, unsure of how these two seemingly dim-witted would be heroes would be the ones to “save the world.”

She nearly lost them a few times, while following them – but picked them up again in the City of Ator, where her good friend Poppy the Salt Vendor explained that she had just seen them both come into the town. (Poppy had previously sold salt to them in the City of Galana).

Amiee lost them again, just inside the caves behind the City of Ator, where they had gone to find and kill a dragon. She did, however, encounter a Silver Dragon, who explained that the two heroes had just left. The Silver Dragon, for some strange reason, seemed strangely familiar to Amiee – but she could not place it. The Silver Dragon recruited Amiee as an Agent of the Silver Draco, and urged Amiee to track and follow Peter and Grayson.

Dean followed Peter and Grayson as well; and was quite surprised when he sensed another from the Metallic Order within the city walls of Blackmire City. Dean tracked it down and discovered that Auric – the Gold Dragon – had been inspired by what he saw Argent doing; so he had come to the world of Mortals and adopted the human guise of a resurrection priest named Zoe Din. When Argent/Dean questioned Auric/Zoe Din about why he had come to the world of Mortals, Auric explained that he had been watching the two morals destined to slay the Dragon of Silverlake and foresaw the death of one of the two heroes – namely, Grayson, the heir to the Blade of Destiny. In the secrecy of the temple’s basement, Auric asked if Grayson was indeed the destined one; and if he was, he was doomed to fail. Argent simply said, “No, there is another.”

Auric remained in Blackmire City to watch over some mortals that had nearly perished at sea, while Argent continued to follow Peter and Grayson. When Andrea the Assassin and Daniel the Destructive finally caught up with Peter and Grayson; Dean had sensed that someone had placed a spell over Daniel’s memory, blocking out a small portion. Dean, with the Magic of Dragons, easily wiped away the spell placed there by the Captain of the Crimson Draco Legion. Daniel suddenly remembered what had happened at Gnome Mountain and recognized the crest that Andrea the Assassin wore. He kept quiet, and when it came time to teleport them all way as Andrea had commanded – he merely teleported Peter, Grayson, and Pawl – along with Dean the Dragon, hoping that Dean would destroy the Crimson Draco Mother. However, Dean upheld his promise to not directly take action and waited on Grayson, who courageously charged the Red Dragon, Crimson, and killed her with the Blade of Destiny. In the blinding flash of light, Dean disappeared and returned to the Realm of Dragons.

There, he plead his case that the Chromatic Dragons needed to be stopped; and that the Mortals would not rely on the Dragons as the Metallic Dragons suspected – but sometimes, everyone needs a nudge to do the right thing – even Dragons.

The Metallic Order agreed, and all of them descended down to the World of Mortals.

David the Delinquent

David the Delinquent

Race: Human
Occupation: Thief, Journeyman in Training
Place of Birth: Stonewall
Known Relatives: Mother (Unknown Name), Father (Unknown Name)
First Appearance: Neverending Nights – Sixty: But I’m A Lover, Not A Fighter
History: David the Delinquent was only an infant when his parents, both of them adventurers, had gone in search of the fabled Dragon Ball, which would allow the owners to control dragons. With his parents slain, David grew up on the streets, feeling as if he was born to emptiness. He survived by stealing out of necessity, for this was how he survived. One day, he had tried to steal from a man who had come to Stonewall – the man’s magical, green sword, had caught David’s attention. The man was none other than John the Journeyman, a renowned fighter known far and wide. John the Journeyman captured David just as he was trying to steal his pouch, but rather than turn David over to the authorities, he offered the choice of training David to become something better, something more.

David trained under John the Journeyman, spending many days and nights, doing meager tasks – which he often grew frustrated with. But John the Journeyman always told him, that everything happens for a reason – and doing meager tasks will allow David to hone his skills, if he concentrated on the task at hand, not whether it was meager or beneath him. Once he mastered the notion that nothing is ever beneath him, John the Journeyman began training David properly. With John’s guidance, David began to rapidly change his ways. He began growing up with a pure heart, wanting to become Stonewall’s greatest defender. He led a small group of other young street thieves, much like himself, that he called the “Stonewall Fighters” and began sharing what he had learned. He now spends his days, training, striving to be the greatest warrior possible, while at the same time using his skills and knowledge to uphold peace.

He has told John that one day, he, like his parents, would like to seek out the Dragon Balls, and rather than control the dragons – destroy the Dragon Balls, because no one should have that kind of power, for it would surly corrupt them.

Dave The Invisible Stalker.

Dave, The Invisible Stalker

Race: Invisible Stalker
Occupation: Spy for the Starless Legion
Place of Birth: Old Lanta
Known Relatives: Mother (Unknown Name), Father (Unknown Name)
First Appearance: Neverending Nights – Episode 44: “Seeing The Unseen”
History: As an Invisible Stalker, David was recruited by the Black Dragon, Obsidian to be spy. Obsidian had suspected that her sister, Crimson was becoming overly greedy (as well as too powerful) as she continued to spread her influence over the land. Obsidian sent David to penetrate her defenses and gather as much information as he possibly could. David had successfully spied on Crimson and her growing Legion several times, until dumb luck and misfortune landed David in a locked cell. A glowing, magical weapon had captured David’s attention that had been left in a cell. He had gone in to investigate the magical item, when one of the Crimson Draco Legion saw the prison door open and – without realizing it – closed it on David, trapping him within the cell. David knew he could not make any protest or noise, or else it would give up his location and reveal himself.

He made several attempts to escape the prison cell over the many years that passed; but there was never enough room to squeeze by and make his escape. He had hoped that Obsidian would send someone to rescue her most loyal spy – but that day never came. So there he rotted away in prison, forever trapped – knowing that if he said anything to give away his location, he would be tortured and killed by Crimson.

He even attempted to escape when Peter and Grayson were rescued by Amiee the Armorer; but even she had shut the gate behind them, trapping David within his cell once again. When Ruth the Redeemed came, seeking Peter and Grayson (to help them) – and discovered that they had already been liberated by Amiee, Ruth freed all the other prisoners to form a rebellion and help her and Pawl the Dorf escape in the confusion. However, seeing no one in that cell – she never opened that cell door.

It is believed, to this very day, David the Invisible Stalker remains trapped within that cell.

Daniel the Determined

Daniel the Determined

Race: Gnome
Occupation: Wizard
Place of Birth: Gnome Mountain
Known Relatives: Mother (Unknown Name), Father (Unknown Name)
First Appearance: Neverending Nights – Episode 17: Heroes Bar & Keep
History: Daniel, as a young gnome, suffered greatly from “The Little Man Syndrome.” As far back as to his early days in school, Daniel had always turned to magic to win a fight (a blind spell here, a fire ball there). He had never intended to harm anyone using his magic, but his over eagerness (and his amazing ability to ramble at incredible speeds) often “disrupted” how a spell was supposed to work – and typically, the results were far more serious than he had intended (permanent blindness here, a burning hospital there). All he had ever wanted was for people to respect him (and cower before his magical might, was a nice side effect). Instead, Daniel was branded as Daniel the Destructive.

Alan the Astounding, a Halfling Wizard, took notice of Daniel the Destructive’s potential, however. Alan (“The Astounding!”) took Daniel under his wing and made him a part of Alan’s Academy (often referred to as “AA”). Though Alan the Astounding did teach Daniel some new magic spells (never to be called “magic tricks”), Alan (“The Astounding!”)’s constant drinking had Alan unconscious more often than not. Daniel the Destructive questioned him, Alan (“The Astounding!”) explained that they would begin working on a magical potion that would change the world. However, Daniel wasn’t fooled. Alan actually had Daniel brewing beer for Alan. Despite this, Daniel actually enjoyed brewing beer and began doing so regularly.

Proud of his brewing skills, Daniel eventually left Alan’s Academy and returned home to Gnome Mountain. Within Gnome Mountain, Daniel was approached by a human, adorned in black armor, with a red dragon crest on his chest (he also carried a massive staff, with a red dragon claw holding a crystal at the top). The human told Daniel that he too, like Daniel was a mage, and that he could help Daniel’s brew become even more tasty. Daniel believed him and allowed the man to tamper with the barrels of Daniel’s brew.

During the Brew Fest, it was Daniel’s beer kegs that exploded as Daniel entered the room and cast a simply Dazzle Spell to mark his entrance. The explosion was so massive that it left an enormous crater at the top of Gnome Mountain (the incident heard around the world as “The Explosion Of Gnome Mountain”). Remarkably, no one was hurt, other than a slight case of short term memory loss that Daniel experienced; however, Daniel’s title as “Daniel the Destructive” returned. When Daniel examined the barrels of beer, he discovered that magical runes had been placed on them, so that a simple spell would ignite them. Someone had set him up for failure; however, thanks to the short term memory loss, he did not recall the mysterious figure who had tampered with his barrels of beer, just before the explosion.

Ashamed of the damage he had caused, Daniel the Destructive once again left Gnome Mountain. He wanted to go out into the world and show that he was a good person. That he was capable of great deeds.

It was because of this, Daniel’s life would take an interesting turn. While at the Docks of Port City, Daniel met Andrea the Assassin. Andrea seemed initially annoyed by Daniel’s presence (and constant rambling), and when she excused herself and returned a short while later, she seemed much more friendly and warmed up to Daniel. She explained that two people had stolen a very magical sword from her, and that she needed it back. Daniel recognized his as his chance to do good and make amends, and prove, once and for all, he was a good person.

Little did he know that Andrea was an Assassin for the Crimson Draco Legion; the very same army who served the Crimson Dragon, and had been responsible for the barrels of beer exploded in Gnome Mountain.

Daniel had agreed to help Andrea, and the two of them embarked on their quest to hunt down Peter and Grayson. Along the way, Daniel began to question Andrea’s intentions, as she seemed to have an unusual cruel streak at times. However, there was no doubting her courage as she faced down an Eye Tyrant in the Plains of Desolation. When they encountered the goblins in the Stonefrost Caves, and learned that Peter and Grayson had just passed through; she commanded Daniel to cast a spell that would encourage the goblins to help her. Daniel had merely meant to summon a Earth Elemental that would take part of the Dance Off; and had it won, the goblins would be forced to help. However, Daniel’s magic was still wild and uncontrollable and the Earth Elemental began attacking the goblins instead. Albert, Bob and Charlie all agreed to help Andrea and Daniel.

Later, when Evil Foo killed two additional goblins that had agreed to come along – Ellen and Dink – Andrea immediately in turn, killed Evil Foo. Daniel thought that perhaps Andrea was not so bad after all since she avenged the fallen goblins. (However, Andrea was simply annoyed that someone had killed her servants; she did not do it for revenge or justice, but because she had been inconvenienced).

When Andrea and Daniel finally caught up to Peter and Grayson, it was revealed that Grayson and Andrea had been dating a long time ago in Galana – and a Silver Dragon appeared during the conversation. The Silver Dragon, sensing that a spell had been blocking a part of Daniel the Destructive’s memory, easily removed the memory dampening spell, allowing Daniel’s true memory of the events of Gnome Mountain to return. Rather than teleporting them all to the Crimson Mother Dragon, Daniel teleported Peter, Grayson, Pawl the Dorf and the Silver Dragon to her, leaving Daniel and Andrea in the cavern alone. Daniel confronted Andrea about her being a member of the Crimson Draco Legion; the very legion that had tampered with his barrels of beer, that caused the explosion of Gnome Mountain.

Andrea was ashamed of all that she had done and asked for Daniel’s forgiveness; which he gave her. Andrea gave Daniel a scroll that explained everything the Crimson Draco had done; including the tampering of Daniel’s beer barrels. Daniel took the scroll and returned to Gnome Mountain, where he was cleared of the damage and began the rebuilding of Gnome Mountain, where his peers now called him Daniel the Determined.

Daniel couldn’t help but wonder – what had the Crimson Draco Legion hoped to accomplish by blowing the top off of Gnome Mountain? That part of the scroll had been blacked out, so that not even Andrea knew their intentions…

Crimson the Dragon

Crimson The Dragon

Race: Dragon
Occupation: Red Dragon, Leader of Crimson Draco Legion
Place of Birth: Realm of Dragons
Known Relatives: Ankalagun (The All Father of Chromatic Dragons – Deceased), Skatha (The All Mother of Chromatic Dragons – Unknown), Obsidian (Black Dragon – Sister), Cobalt (Blue Dragon – Sister), Emerald (Green Dragon – Sister), Frostmourn (White Dragon – Sister)
First Appearance: (Voice Is Heard) Episode Nineteen: ‘The Hunt’, (In Human Form) Episode 38: Mandatory Flashbacks, (In Dragon Form) Episode Fourty-Two: ‘Oh Mother Dearest’
History: Over two thousand years ago, Dragons roamed the world. During this time, the Chromatic Dragons (Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White) was at constant war with the Metallic Dragons (Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold and Silver). The resulting War of Dragons changed the land so much, that both sides realized that soon there would be nothing to fight over. The Dragons made the agreement to leave the Realm of Mortals and return to the Realm of Dragons.

For one thousand years after this peace treaty, Dragons had become a thing of myth. However, the Chromatic Dragons had been deceitful in their agreement. They had returned to the World of Mortals, in the guise of humanoids (pretending to be humans). Disguised as humans, they began creating Legions of Soldiers that swore to their Order. The idea had been to create one large Legion to challenge the Metallic Dragons and destroy them; but the Chromatic Dragons in their greed, could not even trust one another – and thus factions were created. Crimson, the Red Dragon, created her legion – The Crimson Draco Legion.

Crimson The Dragon

Of all the Chromatic Dragons, Crimson was clearly the most powerful as well as the most deceitful. She purposely sought out those who felt spurned by other humans, and like her fiery breath – she forged that hatred into loyalty to her cause, as she promised the one thing each of them always wanted – revenge. One of those people was a sweet, young woman by the name of Ruth. She sensed much anger simmering in Ruth’s heart and used it to make her loyal. Ruth quickly rose through the ranks of the Crimson Draco Legion. The only person to hold a higher position was The Crimson Captain.

Crimson entrusted her with the mission of finding the Blade of Destiny – said to be forged by the Dwarves when Dragons still walked the world. Rumor had it that it could kill Dragons, in the hands of the ‘Bloodline.’ Ruth, who had changed her name and appearance (to look and sound more menacing) to Andrea the Assassin – had tracked the blade down to a vendor named Ronald, within Stonefrost City. She questioned him about the blade, and once she learned that he had sold the blade only a few weeks ago – she killed him.

Andrea sent a message to Crimson, who then informed her to seek out Daniel the Destructive. Together Andrea and Daniel tracked down the new owners of the blade. However, in a twist of fate, Grayson – who happened to be a part of the Bloodline – found courage in his heart and struck the blade deep into Crimson’s chest, causing a massive explosion.

Crimson had been slain.
